The last game of the season for the team saw them up against Earls Barton. The weather was bright and sunny but as always with the home ground the wind gusted across the pitch, disrupting the flow of the game.
Both teams started brightly and opportunities arose at both ends. Grammarians’ Redford Williams had a low drive shave the outside of the far post and Earls Baton were unfortunate that their striker was in an off-side position when he received the ball and put it in the Grammarians net. Some team changes were made on the half hour mark and within a minute Grammarians were 1-0 up. Nassir Ahmed received the ball on the left, beat two players and then fired past the keeper. Grammarians were soon 2-0 up when Redford Williams headed in at the far post after a fine ball in from the right.
On the 42 minute mark Jordan Asher made space on the left and cut the ball back to Jamal Allpress who hit it first time. The pace and direction of the strike beat the Earls Barton keeper which made it 3-0 to Grammarians. Grammarians attacked with purpose and had several more chances saved or missed until Jordan May made it four. Jordan Asher’s shot was parried out by the keeper and finished on a follow up run by Jordan May. Earls Barton went close to reducing the deficit with a shot coming back off the Grammarians bar but it was Grammarians who claimed the last goal. Jordan May made it a brace with an attacking run and shot that was finished through the keeper’s legs. Grammarians went close again in the final minutes with Jordan Asher hitting the post and Sandy Strathern having his goal bound shot pushed to safety by the goal minder. Final score 5-0 Grammarians.
